Overview
Focus
HOT GIRLS READ CARLO ROVELLI is a tongue-in-cheek social media campaign for KINI — a fictional swimwear brand for women who contain multitudes.
The campaign subverts traditional bikini advertising by reframing desirability. Instead of selling aspiration through male attention, competition, or hyper-performance, KINI positions its wearer as intellectually curious, self-possessed, and quietly magnetic.
The “hot girl” in this world isn’t trying to be watched. She’s thinking about quantum mechanics.
The campaign centres around a short narrative film, from which a series of single-shot vignettes will be extracted for social media. Each vignette stands alone as an aesthetic, slightly absurd micro-moment — fruit crunching, sunscreen glistening, pages turning — sustaining intrigue and conversation across platforms.
Desired Campaign Outcome
Establish a distinct cinematic brand universe for KINI — one that feels nuanced, playful and recognizable.
Naturally feature the products/collection inside of a short campaign film that allows the bikinis to feel lived in and real.
Leverage 3 creative video content formats to produce a content series that feel like scenes or snippets from an ongoing story — something audiences want to revisit and tune in for. (The formats are “Micro-films”, “Vignettes” and “Video Lookbooks”.)
Execute a Tease → Unveil → Sustain rollout for the campaign’s content, maximizing organic engagement.
Position KINI as a brand that contains multitudes.
Campaign Concept
A short story in the style of MOONRISE KINGDOM about a girl who feels bored on the beach, aching to read her copy of Carlo Rovelli's QUANTUM MECHANICS, while her date yaps mindlessly.
Synopsis / Narrative
We open on an ECU of a MAN (24) biting into a mango. The sound is exaggerated — sticky, wet, visceral. Juice runs down his hand. We sit in the discomfort of it.
Cut to an EST ABLISHING WIDE: a picnic blanket on the sand. He sits cross-legged, mid-monologue, speaking animatedly about something inconsequential. Opposite him sits GIRL 1 — tall, composed, beautiful. She is polite, but visibly disengaged. Her chin rests on her knees. The wind moves slightly through her hair.
We slowly PUSH into her face. Her eyes drift away from him.
Her gaze lands on her beach bag, half-open on the sand. Visible inside: lip gloss, sunglasses, a cap, a small makeup pouch — and a book. The cover reads: “Quantum Mechanics” — Carlo Rovelli
CUT back to her. Her eyes linger. She glances toward the sea and exhales.
Near the shoreline, GIRL 2 sits on her towel, applying sunscreen with deliberate, almost sculptural movements. The MAN continues yapping in the background — inaudible, irrelevant.
GIRL 2 reaches into her tote and pulls out the same book. She lies down and begins to read.
GIRL 1 notices. Her posture shifts. Curiosity replaces boredom.
Cut to a L OW-ANGLE of the blazing sun. The frame is almost too bright to look at. GIRL 1 walks into frame, her silhouette eclipsing the light.
A shadow falls across GIRL 2’s page. She lowers the book slowly and looks up. Their eyes meet.
CUT to GIRL 1. The camera tilts down to reveal she is holding her own copy of the book.
A beat.
GIRL 2 smiles.
CUT to the MAN alone on the blanket, mid-sentence, now unheard. The girls sit together near the water, legs stretched toward the sea, reading side by side.
The fruit on the blanket browns in the sun.
Cultural Lens
The campaign lives in a stylised, nostalgic universe — drawing inspiration from the symmetrical framing and pastel, storybook palette of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and the sun-drenched, British seaside sensuality of Alasdair McLellan’s photography.
It reframes contemporary ideas of desirability, beauty, intelligence and subverts expectations.

Color & Tone
Palette:
Warm tones (reds, yellows, oranges, pinks) with cream and off-white colours, all set against the backdrop of a film-faded ocean blue.
Temperature:
Warm, a slight sepia tone effect on a world that exists in the colours of retro Kodak film. Saturated but soft colour grading.
Texture:
Smooth textures with small grains of sand stuck to smooth skin, glistening bodies lathered in sunscreen.
Cinematic Language
Slow zooms and quick pans or "woosh effects" a la Wes Anderson.
Neatly composed static shots.
Composition:
Wide angles with slow zooms, moving into extreme close.
Slightly off-centre framing - we don't want to outrightly copy Wes Anderson's style.
Close crop details of faces, fabric, hands, books and beach sand.
Lighting Philosophy:
Natural, bright, hot summer's day vibes.
